Butter

Today our teacher was very lucky to get a taste of some butter made by Class 6. They made it today and she said it was delicious.
How did you make it Class 6? Maybe we could have a go ourselves.

We searched for big logs and stones. We tried to drag a big stone back using string but it was too heavy. Does anyone have any ideas about how we can get them to our mud kitchen?

Carrot cake

Some of us helped to make the carrot cakes at the farm. There wasn’t enough room for them all in the cooker so Derek too some of them to the farm house to cook in his aga.

Ready, steady, cook!

At the farm we decided to make some vegetable soup and carrot cakes, using our healthy ingredients. We learned lots of new skills and made sure we kept safe when using knives and hot water.

20140624-092941.jpg we kept safe at the cooker by listening very careful to the adults and only entering the kitchen area with an adult (or two!).

Healthy ingredients

Using carrots and potatoes grown in our garden (and a few extras from the shops!), what do you think we could make with these ingredients?

Today we continued to work towards the Bronze level of our Farming and Countryside award. We looked at lots of different seeds and talked about differences and similarities. We can now identify a sunflower and a broad bean seed. We all went on a leaf hunt. We discovered that there are lots of different trees in our school environment and used a leaf identification chart to help us find out what they are called. We have been learning about the properties of shapes in maths this week so this new vocabulary has really helped us talk about the shapes of the leaves and seeds. We all planted our own sunflower seed and learned about what they need to grow. We looked at different fruit and vegetables and learned about how to categorise them.
We are well on our way to achieve the Bronze award by the end of the year. Which level of the award are you working towards?
